Darkness Isn’t Always the Scariest Thing Out There…

I grew up in a relatively boring suburb.

One day, I walked my dog to the shops, keeping to our usual route. We were on our way back when my dog randomly glanced behind.

I turned and found that a man was walking close beside me. I had never seen him before, but he beamed at me like I was an old friend. He slowly drew closer to me. When our shoulders were almost touching, he reached out and grabbed the back of my neck.

He didn’t hurt me. But I realized in that moment how easily he could have.

It didn’t matter that I was only a few minutes from home.

Or in broad daylight. Or in public. Or with my dog.

I wasn’t safe.

All I could think to do was keep walking, keep smiling, make sure not to upset him.

Eventually, we reached a fork in the path and he let me go. He went on his way, and I never saw him again.

That was the day I learned a painful lesson. Familiarity doesn’t ensure safety.

This volume holds tales of people who learned this lesson the hard way. A troubled man has a mysterious encounter. Monsters stalk quiet neighborhoods. A perfect couple confronts their secrets. And a cartoon hides a sinister message within its bright colors.

There’s always something lurking in plain sight, ready to grab us.

Here’s hoping that they’ll let you go if they do.

Terror in the Shadows Volume 13 is now available on Amazon, priced at 99c for a limited time only!
