DOJ Probes Oklahoma Mental Health Sytem and Police Department Response
The investigation will assess whether Oklahoma has appropriate measures in place to help those suffering with mental illness so that admissions to psychiatric facilities and calling 911 can be minimized.
The Department of Justice on Thursday announced an investigation into Oklahoma’s Mental Health System based on Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The probe will look at how well the state of Oklahoma’s community services cater to the mentally ill, including examining the State of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City and Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD and their response to those in crisis.
Investigators will assess whether Oklahoma has appropriate measures in place to help those suffering with mental illness so that admissions to psychiatric facilities and calling 911 can be minimized. The DOJ’s investigation will include community outreach to hear about people’s experience with OKCPD and Oklahoma’s mental health services.
