Five Connecticut Officers Charged for Paralyzing a Man in a Police Van
The New Haven officers turned themselves in to state police for the botched transport of an individual that left him paralyzed.
Five New Haven police officers turned themselves in to state police for their involvement in paralyzing Richard “Randy” Cox, who was transported to a detention facility when one of the officers hit the brakes, sending Cox head-first into the front of the rear compartment, Ed Stannard reports for Hartford Courant.
The officers were charged with felony cruelty to persons and a misdemeanor charge of second-degree reckless endangerment, according to state police. Cox’s lawyers filed a $100 million lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the city of New Haven and the five officers involved in transporting him in September.
