Gov Abbot, Parole Board Blasted for Early Release of Dallas Shooter

A state lawmaker is calling for an investigation into Texas’ Board of Pardons and Parole for the early release of the alleged shooter who opened fire at a Dallas-area hospital, killing two. Gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke blames Gov. Greg Abbott, reports Aarón Torres for the Dallas Morning News. Texas’ Board of Pardons and Parole says that the decision to place Nestor Oswaldo Hernandez on an ankle monitor after he served five years of an eight-year sentence for aggravated robbery in 2015 is “not unusual.” The Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed Hernandez had permission to be at the hospital because his girlfriend gave birth to their child. Rep. Rafael Anchía, D-Dallas, is asking a state auditor to launch a full investigation into why permission was granted.
