New Criminal Code In Indonesia Bans Sex Outside of Marriage
The ban carries with it a maximum sentence of one year in jail and applies to both Indonesians and foreign visitors.
Indonesia’s parliament approved a new criminal code with bipartisan support on Tuesday that bans all sex outside of marriage, Ananda Teresia and Kate Lamb report for Reuters. The ban carries with it a maximum sentence of one year in jail and applies to both Indonesians and foreign visitors.
In addition to the sexual morality law, the new code includes bans against insulting the president or the state, staging protests without formal notification, and spreading views counter to “state ideology.” The laws will not come into effect for three years, giving officials time to draft and implement related regulations.
