Parents of Michigan Shooting Victims Sue School District for $200 Million
The lawsuits are the first known civil suits filed in connection with the Nov. 30 shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan.
Jeffrey and Brandi Franz, the parents of two teenage daughters who attended Oxford High School, one of whom was shot in the neck during the recent mass shooting, filed a pair of lawsuits seeking $100 million each against the Michigan school district, claiming that the violence of that day could have been prevented, reports the Associated Press. The parents’ attorney, Geoffrey Fieger, accused school officials and staff at Oxford High of not doing enough to prevent the shooting and protect students. The lawsuits are the first known civil suits filed in connection with the shooting. Named in the suits are Oxford School District Superintendent Tim Throne, Oxford High School principal Steven Wolf, two counselors, two teachers, and a staff member.
