Former Vice President Mike Pence announced on Wednesday that he will not testify before the House of Representatives panel that is investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol that challenged the results of the 2020 Election, Andy Sullivan reports for Reuters. Pence had to go into hiding for hours during the storm on the Capitol in 2021, due both to the chaos of the day and explicit threats against his life as the man some falsely believed had the power to overturn the election results.
“Congress has no right to my testimony,” Pence said in an interview with CBS News’ Margaret Brennan. “We have a separation of powers under the Constitution of the United States and I believe it would establish a terrible precedent for the Congress to summon a vice president of the United States to speak about deliberations that took place at the White House.”
