Police Bodycam Shows Unarmed Jayland Walker Shot Dozens Of Times
Some 50 protesters were arrested during July 4 demonstrations in Akron, Ohio over an incident that began as a routine traffic stop.
Police have released body-camera footage from police officers on the scene when Jayland Walker was killed in an Akron, Ohio parking lot after what began as a routine traffic stop, CNN reports. The videos show the June 27 car chase, during which police said Walker allegedly fired a gun out the window as well as the foot pursuit, and end in officers shooting him. The medical examiner found that Walker, 25, suffered at least 60 wounds after he was shot dozens of times by a group of officers. While a gun was recovered from his car after the shooting, Walker was unarmed at the time he was killed.
The killing has caused outrage in the city, with many residents demanding change and accountability alongside the Walker family. About 50 people were arrested July 4 during protests in Akron following release of the bodycam footage and details about the incident, the Washington Post reports.
