Mental health experts are examining the long-term effects of anxiety concerning potential police interactions, Marcus Biddle reports for WHYY News. Experts say several factors contribute to anxiety, nervousness and fear, especially since the incident could reoccur, leading encounters like stop and frisk to cause PTSD or have related effects.

Black and Hispanic people are more susceptible to experiencing mental health concerns after police encounters. About 23 percent of Black and Brown youth report having an interaction with police by the time they are 15. However, according to the American Psychological Association, only 26 percent of Black and Hispanic men with anxiety and depression pursue mental health services, compared to over 45 percent of non-Hispanic white men.
