Priest Sentenced For Hoarding Thousands Of Child Sexual Abuse Images

A retired priest was sentenced to five years in prison for possession of child pornography in the Eastern District of Missouri on Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the district announced. James Beighlie was investigated as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative. He pleaded guilty in October. Investigators found 6,000 images containing child sexual abuse material on one computer and two PowerPoints that linked to thousands of the files, which Beighlie edited and added to more than 2000 times over the last 15 years.

The investigation resulted from a referral from the Congregation of the Mission in St. Louis and an IT support company that worked with the church after they discovered compromising photos of Beighlie, and videos of minors engaging in sex acts on church devices.
