Some Things Just Haunt Us for the Rest of Our Lives…

We don’t always outgrow our fears. Sometimes, we just learn to carry them with us.

I was that weird kid that was utterly infatuated with myths and monsters. I savored campfire stories and hoarded urban legends like they were collectibles. Most of the time, I can put the story aside. But there are a few that just seem to lurk in the back of my mind, waiting to take over my thoughts.

To this day, a flash of light in a darkened mirror will have me thinking about Bloody Mary. Maybe it was the ritual aspect of calling forth the murderous spirit. Or maybe it’s because that story scared me the most.

Age, logic, and maturity can’t stop my brain from revisiting that legend over and over.

In this volume, a man is pursued by a childhood fear that’s become all too real. A deal with the devil brings consequences a woman might not be able to live with. A group of friends learn that some places are best left unexplored. A blizzard brings more dangers than just the brutal cold.

The scary stories I’ve carried with me since childhood have taught me that we never truly outgrow our fears. We merely store them away like much-loved books and hope that nothing knocks them off the shelf.
