Thailand Cracks Down on Guns After Childcare Massacre

Thailand has moved swiftly to regulate guns in the wake of the horrific Oct. 6 attack on a childcare center that 36 dead, including 24 children, reports Kelly Kasulis Cho and Vasapa Wanichwethin in the Washington Post.  Despite not having a right to firearms like the U.S Second Amendment, Thai civilians hold an estimated 10.3 million legal and illegal guns, according to the 2018 Small Arms Survey. As part of the initiative to crack down on firearms, the country plans to get tougher on unlawful purchases and sales, partly from corrupt government officials. Thailand also plans to put a stricter check on legal firearms, where permits are required to own a weapon, which comes with several restrictions like people convicted of a severe crime, living with a mental challenge or having no income.
