Three Major Pharmaceutical Groups Agree to Settle Opioid Lawsuits in 46 States
The agreement represents 90 percent of eligible political subdivisions that have brought opioid-related suits against the companies, who will pay roughly $19.5 billion over 18 years.
AmerisourceBergen Corp., Cardinal Health Inc. and McKesson Corp. have agreed to proceed with a roughly $19.5 billion settlement in opioid lawsuits filed by 46 state and local governments in the U.S., reports the Wall Street Journal. Under the agreement, which represents 90 percent of eligible political subdivisions that have brought opioid-related suits against the companies, AmerisourceBergen will pay up to $6.1 billion, Cardinal Health will pay up to $6 billion and McKesson will pay up to $7.4 billion over the course of 18 years and implement injunctive relief terms, including establishing a clearinghouse that consolidates data from all three distributors. Alabama, Oklahoma and Washington aren’t participating in the settlement.
