GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger has disclosed that the Air Force is planning to scrap a program where RC-26 aircraft pilots worked with law enforcement agencies to track shipments of illegal fentanyl across the border. The planes were involved in three separate seizures of thousands of fentanyl pills over just the last three weeks, Zachary Cohen reports for CNN. However, Air Force officials say that retirement of the RC-26 “leaves no capability gap” in the Air Force’s ability to assist law enforcement in surveillance and reconnaissance. Kitzinger has sent a request to the Armed Services Committees to re-up language funding the RC-26 in the next defense spending bill.
