Attorney Shakeup Roils R. Kelly Case

As the trial of singer R. Kelly nears, two of his attorneys were allowed to be excused from the case, as two more attorneys come on the team.

As R. Kelly’s trial on racketeering charges alleging a decades-long sex ring involving underaged girls, along with many other accusations, looms, two of his attorneys officially left the case, with two more quickly joining after, reports Courthouse News. On Thursday, a motion filed by Chicago-based attorneys Steven A. Greenberg and Michael I. Leonard to withdraw was approved. Greenberg still sides with the 54-year-old singer, saying “We have always believed that this case is without merit and are disappointed that we will not be able to win R Kelly’s case for him. We certainly will be rooting for him.” Jury selection is scheduled to begin on August 9, and opening arguments will take place on August 18.
