Camden, NJ Man Paralyzed by Police Wins $10 Million Settlement

Camden County in New Jersey has agreed to a $10 million settlement in a federal excessive force lawsuit filed by Xavier Ingram, who was paralyzed following a 2014 police encounter, reports New Jersey.com. It is allegedly the largest settlement of any police brutality case in the state’s history. Ingram was fleeing from police on June 12, 2014 because he had an outstanding warrant when he was caught and beaten by three officers, one of whom stepped on his neck, damaging his spinal cord and displacing vertebrae and leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. The lawsuit alleged an officer used excessive force, failed to provide medical care, and the Camden County police department neglected to properly train and supervise the officers involved.
