Chicago Settles $1.2 Million In Police Misconduct Cases

Chicago must pay $1.2 million to settle three different police misconduct cases, Heather Cherone reports for WTTW. The City Council voted to settle lawsuits including a case settled for $350,000 where officers, during a warranted search of a home in 2019, pointed assault weapons at children then-aged 9, 8 and 6 years old. The 8-year-old child was later handcuffed and held outside for 40 minutes.

The City Council also voted to settle a $600,000 case where a jogging bystander was hit by a police car that was pursuing a stolen car, and a $250,000 case where a man was held for two months, arrested on an attempted murder charge for a murder he was witness to but did not commit.
