A New York defense attorney known for his notorious cases where he went up against federal prosecutors, including one where he scored a mistrial for John “Junior” Gotti Jr during a 2009 murder case, died Thursday.
John Marringolo, a Law professor at Pace University and a New York defense attorney known for his notorious cases where he went up against federal prosecutors, including one where he scored a mistrial for John “Junior” Gotti Jr during a 2009 murder case, died Thursday at 48 years old with no current known cause of death, Molly Crane-Newman reports for the New York Daily News.
Marringolo’s wins include his defense of the purported Philadelphia crime family head Joseph “Skinny Joey” in 2018 racketeering case. He defended former NYPD deputy inspector James “Jimmy” Grant when he was accused of taking bribes in 2019. He argued ethnic profiling by the NYPD in 2019 against his client John “Porky” Zancocchio, said to be the head of the Bonanno crime family. This year he secured a mistrial for Timothy Shee, a former associate of Steve Bannon who was later convicted of wire fraud for his involvement in the boarder wall charity, We Build the Wall.
