According to a new documentary podcast, Alphabet Boys, the FBI paid a violent felon, Michael Adam Windecker II, to infiltrate the racial justice movement in Denver in the summer of 2020, Trevor Aaronson reports for The Intercept. Windecker, known as Mickey, was a regular at the demonstrations and became an organizer. Sources familiar with him that summer say that he encouraged protestors to become violent and militant and to go on the ‘offensive’ against the police.
Demonstrations in Denver became violent that year, injuring more than 70 officers in one week of protests and inciting a significant and violent police response; activists say that Windecker helped organize those protests and incited violence at them. Windecker was paid over $20,000 in cash by the FBI, who declined to comment on the investigation. According to Zebbodios Hall, a Black activist in Denver: “The FBI caused violence here. They don’t want people to know that.”
