Federal Judge Strikes Down Parts of New York Gun Law

U.S. District Judge Glen Suddaby halted New York’s latest attempt at restricting guns in sensitive places after the Supreme Court ruled its previous gun laws unconstitutional, reports Michael Hill in the Associated Press. In his ruling, the judge said the state couldn’t restrict individuals from carrying firearms in New York City’s subway system or Times Square, the densely populated tourist attraction. However, he said New York could exclude guns from other locations, including schools. He also struck down part of the licensing rules, like one provision that required applicants to submit information on their social media accounts. The ruling, which hasn’t taken effect yet, has already been appealed by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
