Louisiana Authorities One Step Closer to Placing Juveniles in Angola Prison

Louisiana officials have moved eight youths from beleaguered state-run juvenile facilities and into the West Feliciana Center for Youth, a facility on the grounds of the State Penitentiary at Angola, reports James Finn for The Advocate. The sudden moves, taking place over a 24 hour period, conflicted with the original timeline of one to two weeks announced by the Office of Juvenile Justice on October 17.

As a result, some youths had been moved before speaking with families, while advocates and attorneys scrambled to figure out which youths had been transferred where. The controversial plan, which houses the youths at the Angola facility’s old death row building, is the subject of a federal lawsuit.
