Maryland County Sets Teen Curfew to Fight Spike in Violent Crime

A strict curfew for teens and children was issued on Monday by police and local authorities in a Maryland county close to Washington, D.C., following a string of violent incidents in the area and the highest rate of homicides the county has seen in three decades last month. Prince George’s County, Maryland, will enforce a curfew for unaccompanied minors under the age of 17 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday and from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Curfew violations by minors will result in fines for their families. When the curfew was announced on Monday, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks stated there was an identifiable problem with the system because police were “arresting and re-arresting the same juveniles,” who she claimed were out committing crimes every night at 3 a.m.
