Texas Wait List Delays Treatment, Rehab For Juveniles
As the state suffers dire staffing shortages., ore than 100 minors are spending months in waiting to start court-ordered rehabilitation and treatment programs on Texas Juvenile Justice Department campuses.
More than 100 minors are months-in waiting to start court-ordered rehabilitation and treatment programs on Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) campuses, KXAN reports. As it works to address dire staffing shortages at the state level, the agency is currently rushing to create and begin treatment for children confined to 43 local juvenile detention facilities dispersed throughout the state.
The state’s juvenile justice division was forced to eliminate several of its own treatment initiatives, including one centered around the state’s most violent juvenile offenders. All children waiting for state institutions will receive credit for time spent waiting in local detention facilities, according to TJJD officials who made the announcement on Wednesday.
