Member of Three Percenters Militia Sentenced to 19 Years for Kidnap Plot on Gov. Whitmer

Barry Croft Jr, a member of the far-right Three Percenters militia group, was sentenced on Wednesday to 19 years in prison as the last conviction in the plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Al Jazeera reports. Croft was convicted on conspiracy and possession of an unregistered explosive. Another participant and militia member, Adam Fox, received a 16-year sentence on Tuesday. Prosecutors presented Croft and Fox as leaders of the operation, which they hoped would trigger a “second American revolution.”
According to prosecutors, the group planned to abduct Whitmer from her vacation home in 2020 in order to give her a sham “trial” on charges of treason and potentially execute her. “Although he may not have had hierarchical control over all the other participants, [Croft] coordinated and pushed the implementation of the conspiracy from its inception to its final stages,” said Assistant US Attorney Nils Kessler in court filings.
