New York Adds ‘Gun Free Zones’ After Supreme Court Ruling
The list of "sensitive" spaces where gun carrying won't be permitted includes parks, churches and theaters, among other areas like Times Square.
After New York was one of six states to have their gun restriction laws struck down by the Supreme Court, the state has begun identifying locations where concealed carry is restricted, the Associated Press reports. The sites include dense population areas like Times Square but include parks, churches and theaters. In addition, the restrictions apply to places authorities deem “sensitive,” like schools and the subway. In addition to the limits, New York plans on having tight provisions for anyone trying to obtain a legal right to carry a firearm. One condition includes the state’s look into an individual’s past three years of social media postings, which past shooters used to hint at the potential tragedies they’d later cause.
