NJ Township Settles With Police Chief Who Alleged Racial Discrimination

A Neptune, New Jersey racial discrimination lawsuit came to an end on Monday with a $500,000 settlement to be paid by the township’s insurance carrier to former Police Chief James Hunt Jr., Charles Daye reports for Asbury Park Press. Hunt filed a lawsuit in November 2020 claiming that he was the victim of discrimination by the township’s Police Oversight Committee, which he said harassed him and undermined his authority. The committee was charged with looking into allegations of systemic misconduct within the department, but Hunt alleged that committee members conspired to replace him with a white police chief.
