Oregon’s attorney general has asked the Supreme Court to overturn rulings that released Frank Gable, who was previously convicted of the 1989 murder of Oregon Corrections Director Michael Francke, Maxine Bernstein reports for The Oregonian.
A circuit court found in September that Gable would not have been convicted by a reasonable jury due to another man’s multiple confessions to the murder that Gable was convicted of. The confessions were excluded from the original trial. Gable has served nearly 30 years of a life sentence for the murder of Francke. The state argues that the confessions were inconsistent, untrustworthy and uncorroborated, and should not effect Gable’s conviction.
