Earlier this week, police raided the Yongsan district police station in Itaewon where the tragedy occurred as part of an ongoing investigation into the role police played in the tragedy and interdepartmental failure to control the crowd. The Chief of the National Police Agency in Seoul has called the police response to the incident “inadequate,” and agencies throughout the country have faced harsh criticism since the tragedy for failure to prevent or mitigate the loss of life.
