CFO Embezzled $10 Million from Girardi Keese In “Side Fraud” Found Through Fed Investigation
Former Chief Financial Officer Christopher Kamon embezzled at least $10 million from the firm for personal use, including monthly payments to an escort and renovations for his home in Los Angeles, but the Los Angeles Times reports that the feds have their eyes on a larger scheme at the Girardi Keese representing $100 million in client losses.
The chief financial officer at the now defunct Girardi Keese law firm embezzled at least $10 million from bank accounts owned by the firm for personal use, including monthly payments to an escort and renovations for his home in Los Angeles, Matt Hamilton and Harriet Ryan report for the Los Angeles Times. Former CFO Christopher Kamon was arrested on wire fraud charges in Maryland last week, and details of the allegations against him were provided by federal prosecutors during a Thursday detention hearing. But Kamon’s fraud was only a “side fraud,” separate from a larger and more complex scheme at Girardi Keese, Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen McGuinn said during the hearing. That scheme is the subject of an ongoing investigation, but involves about $100 million in client losses, according to McGuinn.
