Rikers Officer Fired 7 Years After Purported Sexual Misconduct And Coercion
A four-month-long relationship in 2015 between a New York DOC corrections officer and an incarcerated woman at the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island has just led to the firing of the officer, Leonard McNeill. The officer also allegedly convinced the woman to delay reporting a rape she endured by another officer that has since been criminally charged, Reuven Blau and Keri Blakinger report for The Marshall Project.
The victim told The Marshal Project she sees McNeill’s firing as justice, despite how long it took. New York DOC Commissioner Louis Molina said the firing was an example of the department’s “zero tolerance” policy in a statement but declined to comment on why the investigation took seven years.
