Texas Gov. Orders Crackdown on Border Drug Gangs

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has ordered law enforcement in the state to step up their investigation on transnational gangs moving drugs and people across the border from Mexico, reports the Texas Tribune. Following up his earlier moves to apply political pressure on Washington over immigration, Abbott’s executive order called for new intelligence collection on gang operations as well as more seizures of smuggled goods. At the same time, he also announced new moves to halt the influx of Fentanyl. “Fentanyl is a clandestine killer, and Texans are falling victim to the Mexican cartels that are producing it,” Abbott said.
