Two Men Charged With Hate Crime After Murder of Transgender Woman
Two South Carolina men, Daqua Ritter and Xavier Pinckney, have been charged with hate crimes and obstruction of justice in the murder of a transgender woman because of her gender identity.
Two South Carolina men, Daqua Ritter and Xavier Pinckney, have been federally charged with hate crimes and obstruction of justice in the targeted murder of a transgender woman because of her gender identity, the Department of Justice announced on Tuesday. Pinckney is charged with obstructing the investigation into the murder by giving false information to authorities while Ritter was charged with murder, hate crime charges and obstruction. If found guilty, Ritter could face life in prison, while Pinckney could face up to 20 years for obstruction or up to five years for lying to federal investigators.
