TX Korean Hair Salon Shooting Wasn’t Hate Crime, Officials Say

Dallas police have launched a search for a suspect who recently opened fire at a Dallas hair salon, injuring three Korean women inside before fleeing in a maroon minivan, NBC News reports. The suspect, described as a Black male dressed in all black, walked into the business located in the Asian Trade District — known as the city’s Koreatown. After opening fire with his large rifle-like firearm, he fled. All three victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

To that end, the Associated Press followed up after the incident, reporting that the Dallas police chief said they do not believe the shooting motivation was a hate crime. “In this particular case, we have no evidence to point that hate is a factor, and to say otherwise would be irresponsible for us, to have a community live in fear,” Dallas police chief Eddie Garcia said. He concluded: “If there were a nexus to hate, we certainly would be conducting outreach to ensure our community knows.”
