A growing number of police departments are using a new AI system called Truleo which automatically transcribes and analyzes bodycam footage and flags problematic encounters, Jennifer A. Kingston reports for Axios. The platform highlights both good and bad interactions and sends reports to supervisors. The tech detects language and significant actions, flagging and alerting superior officers if it detects things like violence, requests for medical attention, phrases like ‘you’re hurting me’ or ‘I can’t brief’ and other potentially important moments.

In Alameda, California, a case study by the company claims that police use of force dropped by 36 percent after adopting Truleo’s bodycam technology. Truleo costs about $50 per officer per month.
