In Moulton, Alabama, an unnamed Lawrence County deputy sheriff was cleared by a grand jury of any wrongful action after a car chase ended in the death of a suspect of a purported traffic violation. Officials described Matty Robino Hutto, 50, as a parolee who came up with an outstanding felony warrant when he was pulled over by the deputy for a traffic stop. After a chase which started with the attempted stop, Hutto allegedly raised a modified flare gun loaded with a shotgun shell at the deputy, who then fired at him, striking him through the arm and chest. Hutto died on the scene.
