Alabama To Free Hundreds Of Inmates
The change comes from an amendment to a 2015 reform law that was passed in 2021 and goes into effect on January 31, 2023
The Alabama Department of Corrections is planning the early release of 369 inmates across the state tomorrow, some two percent of their latest population census. On Tuesday, hundreds of inmates statewide, most set to end their sentences within a few months to a year already, will be released to the supervision of the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles, Advance Local reports. The change comes from an amendment to a 2015 reform law that was passed in 2021 and goes into effect on January 31, 2023. Inmates participating in the early release will be required to use electronic ankle monitors and may be subject to drug tests, home visits and other requirements.
