National City has one of the highest-paid police departments in San Diego County.
Officers will get a $30,0000 bonus total: $10,000 at hiring, $10,000 after completing their probation period and $10,000 after two years in service. Molly Brennan, administrative services director with the city, said that by hiring officers who have already gone through a six-month academy and have gotten their California Basic Peace Officer Standards and Training Certificate and have finished their probationary period, the city could save $45,000 per new hire.
