For the fifth round of auditing since 2008, Baltimore City Circuit Court’s clerk’s office was found to be failing systemically to collect millions in overdue criminal fines and penalties, Cassidy Jensen reports for the Baltimore Sun. In the latest audit, outstanding criminal court fees in the records of the Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office totaled $12.7 million as of March 2022, including $7.6 in fines overdue since at least 2008. As of March, the clerk’s office had still not forwarded 22,750 outstanding fine accounts to collections.
