Only 43% of NYPD Officers are Vaccinated

A spokesperson for New York’s police department said the agency was “focusing on addressing rumors, misinformation and concerns with vaccination” to persuade officers to get the vaccine.

Only 43 percent of the New York Police Department (NYPD) has been vaccinated against COVID-19, trailing the city’s vaccination rate of 53 percent. An NYPD spokesperson relayed the vaccination rate among uniformed and civilian officers to the New York Post, adding that the force’s “internal messaging focuses on addressing rumors, misinformation and concerns with vaccination.” The low rates, which many people call disappointing and dangerous, were revealed as Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered all city health care workers who are unvaccinated to get tested weekly. De Blasio said he was “looking at” mandatory vaccinations as the Delta variant reportedly accounts for the spread of new COVID infections around the country.
