Biden Signs Bill Aimed At Reducing Crime In Indian Country
The bill amends the Not Invisible Act of 2019 and extends the Joint Commission on Reducing Violent Crime Against Indians for another 18 months.
President Joe Biden has signed a new Indian Country crime bill with the purpose of reducing violent crime in land belonging to American Indian tribes and tribal nations and crimes against Native Americans. The bill amends the Not Invisible Act of 2019 and extends the Joint Commission on Reducing Violent Crime Against Indians for another 18 months.
The bill also allows the commission to accept gifts or donations of property or services from not-for-profits, tribes and tribal entities. The commission’s goal is to increase intergovernmental coordination to combat violent crime against Native Americans and within tribal land. Along with the new crime bill, the president also signed into law eight other Indian affairs bills.
