Lamor Whitehead was indicted Monday on charges that he used a parishioner’s money for personal gain, obtained $5,000 from a businessman through threats of force and lied to federal investigators.

Lamor Whitehead was indicted Monday on charges that he used a parishioner’s money for personal gain, obtained $5,000 from a businessman through threats of force and lied to federal investigators to conceal a second cell phone he owned while FBI agents were executing a search warrant, George Joseph and Yoav Gonen report for The City. He is accused of intentionally defrauding victims, including a woman (named ‘Victim-1’ in the indictment) who gave $90,000 to Whitehead on the promise that he would help her buy a home.
“[Whitehead’s] campaign of fraud and deceit stops now,” U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said in a DOJ release. Whitehead is a well-known pastor in New York, and he made headlines earlier this year when he was robbed on the pulpit of more than $1 million in jewelry. He was previously convicted on counts of grand larceny and identity fraud in 2008.
