In California, activists and students have proposed another bid to eliminate the Los Angeles School Police Department from area schools, hoping to replace the presence of resource officers in their schools with additional staff and tools to provide a better academic environment, Howard Blume reports for the Los Angeles Times. The coalition priced its agenda, which includes other measures that would expand services and introduce more college and mental health counselors to the system, at $800 million annually. Funding for school police in the region is $52 million.
