Doctor Who Provided Abortion to Indiana 10-Year-Old Sues AG

Dr. Caitlin Bernard has filed a lawsuit against Indiana Attorney General Todd Rotika for his investigations into providers like her and subpoenas that sought confidential medical records for a child who received an abortion, Melissa Quinn reports for CBS News. Bernard, an OB-GYN, came to public prominence earlier this year when she provided an abortion for a pregnant 10-year-old from Ohio on the referral of a child abuse doctor from the child’s state days after Roe v. Wade was overturned. The man who allegedly raped the child was arrested and charged with rape two weeks after the abortion.
“The attorney general’s and director’s improper conduct dissuades patients who need emergency abortions from seeking care,” Bernard’s attorneys told the court. “It also threatens patients seeking legal abortions that their most personal and private medical records and health care decisions could be exposed as part of a meritless investigation.”
