DOJ Announces New Grants Tackling Overdose Epidemic, Violent Crime Response
The Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs awarded, collectively, more than $710 million in grant awards in two categories on Friday: crime reduction and law enforcement grants and substance use related programs and resources targeting the overdose epidemic.

The Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) awarded, collectively, more than $710 million in grant awards in two categories on Friday: more than $370 million in crime reduction and law enforcement grants, and more than $340 million geared toward substance use related programs and resources targeting the overdose epidemic.
The grants include funding for prescription drug data collection for local regulators and agencies to implement a centralized database through the Harold Rogers Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, youth and family treatment programs, gun intelligence training, and various other technology and training development grants for law enforcement agencies across the country.
The OJP has allocated around $30 million to its National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative which targets the national unprocessed rape kit issue and works to expand local investigative capacity and resources for investigating sexual assault cases. The list of grants can be read here and here.
