First Trial Challenging Youth Gender-Affirming Care Bans Opens in Arkansas

The first trial challenging a state ban on gender-affirming care for children and teens starts this week in Arkansas. Starting Monday, a U.S. District Judge will hear arguments from two doctors and the family members of four transgender young asking the Judge to hold that the Arksansas law is unconstitutionally discriminatory on both parents’ rights to make medical decisions and doctors’ free speech rights, Andrew DeMillo reports for the Associated Press. The law, which has been temporarily blocked since last year, bans doctors from providing gender-affirming hormone treatments or surgery to anyone under the age of 18 and also bars doctors from referring patients out-of-state for care.
