The family of Stephen Poolson Jr., a Colorado man who was rammed by a police car and then shot to death, is demanding answers about the circumstances of his death, Julianne McShane reports for NBC News. Security footage obtained by NBC affiliate KUSA contradicts the initial narrative released by the Littleton Police Department, who said that Poolson “was driving a motorcycle and crashed” before running and pulling a gun. In the video, a police vehicle hits Poolson with his car, knocking him off his motorcycle before an officer pursues him behind a building. Poolson was then shot and killed.
Poolson’s family is calling for body camera footage to be publicly released and an explanation of why the officer believed that Poolson had a gun. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while multiple law enforcement agencies review the incident.
