Gay NYC Council Member Targeted By Protestors, Vandals Will Have Extra Support From NYPD

Erik Bottcher, an openly gay member of the New York City Council, will have additional support from the New York Police Department after his office and apartment were targeted by vandals and protesters earlier this week. Two women were arrested for trespassing into the lobby of the building where Bottcher lives, and protestors wrote vulgar chalk messages on the sidewalk outside his home and office, Tim Teeman reports for the Daily Beast

Bottcher believes he was targeted after he filmed protesters demonstrating against a Drag Story Time event at a Manhattan library. Bottcher also posted a video Tuesday that allegedly shows protesters who came to his home assaulting one of his neighbors. The original event was a reading of children’s books meant to be more accessible to children with autism and other disabilities at the Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library.
