Louisiana Police Nab Innocent Man After Facial Recognition Fail
A Baton Rouge detective secured an arrest warrant for Randal Reid in Georgia based on a hit from his office’s facial recognition software, but Reid claims to have never even visited Louisiana.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana used facial recognition to arrest the wrong man in a June purse theft, John Simerman reports for The New Orleans Advocate. A Baton Rouge detective secured an arrest warrant for Randal Reid based on the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office facial recognition software, but when local police arrested Reid in Dekalb County, Georgia, Reid reportedly said he didn’t even know where Jefferson Parish is.
“I have never been to Louisiana a day in my life. Then they told me it was for theft. So not only have I not been to Louisiana, I also don’t steal,” Reid said. Reid spent almost a week in jail over the false match.
