Oklahoma Senator Proposes Bill To Make Providing Transgender Healthcare A Crime — Even For Some Adults
The bill is one of the first pieces of legislation of its kind to attempt to criminally restrict the medical decision making of individuals and their doctors for adults well over the age of majority.
Overnight, David Bullard, a republican senator in Oklahoma’s State Senate, has prefiled an unprecedented piece of legislation that proposes banning gender affirming care and medical transitions for transgender youth and beyond — an expansive restriction that the bill proposes extending to adults under the age of 26.
The bill is one of the first pieces of legislation of its kind to attempt to criminally restrict the medical decision making of individuals and their doctors for adults well over the age of majority. The bill, if enacted, would make providing or referring for this kind of care to anyone under 26 years old a felony offense with a statute of limitations of 40 years.
