Same Name, No Relation: Philly Woman Arrested For Texas Crime
Julie Hudson spent nearly a week in jail for a crime committed by another person in another state.
In a case of mistaken identity, Pennsylvania woman Julie Hudson finally went to her local police department after learning she had a criminal record she wasn’t aware of during a job search. When she got there, she was arrested on shoplifting charges from Webster, Texas. She spent nearly a week in jail for a crime committed by another person in another state, Leah Uko, David Chang and Dan Stamm report for NBC10. A surveillance photo of the suspect, another woman named Julie Hudson, at the site of the Texas theft resembled some social media photos of Pennsylvania’s Hudson.
“We accept charges based on the sworn evidence presented to us by law enforcement,” a Harris County District Attorney’s Office spokesman said. “Tuesday, Webster Police notified the court of the error. We dismissed the case within five minutes and immediately contacted Philadelphia Police to release our hold on Ms. Hudson.”
